This guy smiles with his eyes.
I find myself in the land of way too many cars and not enough road (and people like me drive these big old cars and drive them solo, but that's not the point). Anyway, I was driving down a residential road the other day and a couple of guys started crossing the street. Now, the right of way was mine but I wasn't really hung up on that so I stopped to let them cross ahead of me. What did bother me, though, was the snail's pace with which these 2 young, athletic, healthy looking guys crossed the road. In a moment of weakness I whispered "take your time" and I do believe one guy could read my lips (one of many reasons I don't have a fish on my car). He said "sorry" and I smiled at him as if to say, "Oh, that's okay" even though I clearly did not think it was okay. I wasn't all bitter about it...I just though the guys should pick up the pace a bit being that they were holding up traffic.
Later on I was thinking about this (apparently I don't have enough on my mind) and I realized that I smiled at the guy with my mouth but left my eyes out of it. I thought about the difference between the two and then tried it out in the mirror (yes, I am a geek). Is a smile without the eyes a true smile? Such a subtle difference is actually a big statement. It's the difference between, "Oh, that's okay" and "Dude, if I could get away with running over your big toe I would certainly try it."
What would Jesus do?
I am sure that Jesus would not be seriously tempted to run over anyone's big toe. He would probably smile with his eyes.

Beautifully put Stefa! We should all try to smile with our eyes. :) P.S. Remember me?
